Woke up at 6am the other day to an earthquake. It was a fairly small one (around 5.1) but still enough to get ya rattled! There was actually a much larger one the other month but luckily the building codes here are pretty strict so little to no damage occurred. At any rate, some excitement was added to our morning. Funny, after everything stopped shaking you could hear the howler monkeys in the trees howling away all over town. Either they were pissed that they were so abruptly awoken or they were making fun of all the stupid humans who's houses fall down while they're safe up in the trees :-)
A few more pics around this ghost town before the tourists come. Don't be fooled...it seems as if it's beautiful all the time but as it turns out the rainy season in the tropics is no joke! It's been raining steadily for the last three days interrupted by bursts of torrential rain which when pounding on a metal roof sounds like a train is passing over head. Kind of bummer not being able to walk around all the time/or getting soaked when you do, but I gotta say some of the rain the storms have been pretty impressive. Finally the sun came out yesterday and today when I was able to go to the beach, soak up some sun, and snap these pics. Really looking forward to the dry season when we get back with baby.
Also some more good news today, got my first confirmed visitor coming down to hang with me and baby. D. Baxter confirmed to arrive the first week in February! We'll get that passport broken in yet!
Statues outside Rosie's restaurant. So far one of my favorite Costa Rican places to eat.
The entrance to the Cafe De Paris
View from outside the Cafe looking toward the road to the beach
Shade trees at the the beach (where I'm planning to stake my spot out for the season) I'm planning on using baby as a bargaining chip for the spot :-)
If only I knew a use for all this international driftwood... ;-)
