Where's your baby?
One of the most memorable parts of the trip so far has to be traveling through the airport with a stroller and no baby. At one point I was dragging (bouncing) the stroller up a flight of stairs behind me and a woman came rushing over to help me. I can only imagine what she must have thought. I couldn't tell if she was relived that there was not a child in the seat, or confused at the situation in general.
Every time we gate checked the stroller we were asked where the baby was. But I gotta say, if you can swing it it turns out a stroller makes for a very nice luggage cart :-)
What's your address?
There are no street addresses where we're living. I figured because we're in a small beach town that perhaps it's just a little slow getting the infrastructure (i.e. numeric addresses) set up. Turns out this isn't the case. There are no numeric street addresses in the entire country....and to top it off a large majority of streets here have no street names names posted. The other day we were taking a taxi in San Jose and the taxi driver was going on about how exciting it was that street signs were going to start going up on poles to mark the streets! For now the best way to get/give directions is to know the correct part of town then locate a known landmark and estimate the distance after, to the left of, to the right of, or before... along with the correct side of the road. Luckily I have someone with me who speaks Spanish or I'd be up a pretty big creek.
